Research
The Saskatchewan Conservation Learning Centre Inc. (CLC) is a producer-driven, non-profit and a registered charity. As one of eight AgriARM (Agriculture Applied Research Management) sites in Saskatchewan, the CLC serves as a field laboratory for evaluation and demonstration of new research and technology. The CLC prioritizes projects that are of direct interest to local farmers, with a special interest in soil and water conservation practices.
The CLC is led by a volunteer board of directors, comprised of local producers and agronomists. A wide range of small-plot and field-scale projects focusing on grain crops, forages, organic production, horticulture, and more occur at the CLC each year.
Notable features at the CLC include a five acre haskap orchard, a high tunnel for fruit and vegetable crop research, and surface and tile wetland drainage installations.
The CLC boasts a diverse research portfolio covering topics such as:
- soil fertility,
- minor use studies,
- fruit and vegetable variety trials,
- wetland drainage,
- cover crops,
- mechanical weed control,
- private product testing,
- and more.
